This Saturday, September 27, from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., at Dinkelspiel Auditorium, Stanford University. “SOS” is a research and intervention project offered by the Stanford University School of Education. With a rise in recent years in the number of students seeking mental health services, an increase in cheating behavior in school, and students’ consistent worry about academic achievement, we feel it is time to bring the community together to address and counter problems associated with academic stress. Keynote speakers include Denise Pope, Madeline Levine, and David Elkind. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP at sosconference@stanford.edu. For more information please go to: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/SUSE/sosconference/schedule.htm.

Students - Please remember that backpacks, skateboards, scooters and bikes will not be allowed in the stadium. You will NOT be able to leave your items in the ticket booth so be sure to make other arrangements for your personal belongings BEFORE the game.
Also, students need to keep all stairways, ramps and walkways clear in the stadium. You must either be seated in the stands or standing in the courtyard area outside the snack shack.
Thank you!

Science and Technology: SRVUSD is partnering with the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Office of the Secretary of Education (CA) to host training for the Real World Design Challenge (RWDC) at Dougherty Valley High School. In response to a growing shortage of students in the US pursuing careers in science and engineering, DOE has partnered with industry and education to create a program that will inspire and engage students and teachers in the areas of engineering and design. DVHS is sponsoring the training and we will receive FREE training instruction and licenses for 3D CAD software (300 perpetual seat licenses for each school, valued at approximately $1 million). Students from DVHS can compete in the Real World Design Governor’s Challenge, an opportunity for students to work on real world engineering challenges. If you are a parent and would like to volunteer as a coach and help create a team from DVHS, you can attend the training at DVHS on September 23-24, 2008, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm. The cost is free, please contact me if you are interested. More information on participating in the challenge is on their website. http://www.scied.science.doe.gov/RWDC/index.html

Students who had their school photo taken at Registration or the first day of school may pick up their photos in the Quad at brunch or lunch Thursday, September 18. Tables will be set up in the Quad divided by grade.
If your student would like to have his or her photo retaken, have them bring their entire uncut photo package to the makeup photo day on October 1 in the Career Center either before school, at brunch or at lunch. Students who missed one of the original picture days should also come October 1 to have their official school photo taken. If students are not photographed that day, they will not be in our yearbook.

Primo’s Run for Education—-Keep the tradition of DVHS providing the most volunteers!!
Register for the Primo’s Run for Education taking place on Sunday, October 19th, at http://www.primosrun.com. Primo’s Run for Education, the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation’s largest fundraiser, is a 25 year-old tradition bringing together athletes, educators, local businesses and our community of parents and children for a fun, healthful event — all while raising money for our schools! Register to walk/run and/or volunteer to help; either way, you help our PTSA earn extra dollars. You can choose to register for the 5K run/walk, 5K timed run, or ½ Marathon timed run. Remember: Our school receives credit only if you register online! So far, we are in 2nd place amongst the 4 SRVUSD high schools with 17 runners registered (1.7% participation rate). Last year, we came in first. Let’s try to keep that tradition going as well! Register to run or walk today!
