Words Matter. That’s the message to San Ramon Valley Unified elementary to high school students during the week of February 6-10. The purpose of "Words Matter Week" is to create awareness of the power that words can have in building someone up or bringing them down. Through this week schools will promote acceptance and respect for each other's differences through a dialog and activities centered on both kindness and bullying. Activities will vary by site. Many schools have created activities for each day. Highlights include: • sitting with a new friend at lunch • writing kinds notes to each other • conversations about bullying • paper chain bracelets filled with kind words • dramatizations of “words matter” • and much, much more! Formally known as “No Name-Calling Week,” last year was the first year "Words Matter Week" was implemented district-wide. In almost every school that participated student leadership played a vital role in making it a success. This leadership ranged from making posters, to video production and much more to get the message out to peers and fellow school mates. This week is co-sponsored by the District's Climate Committee and the San Ramon Valley Council of Parent-Teacher Association's Inclusion & Diversity Committee.
