The Dougherty Valley Cheer Squad had 23 athletes from the Freshman Team, JV Team and Varsity teams attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Camp at Cal Berkeley in July. It is a 4-day camp that brings out the best in teams and encourages them to bring out the best in each other on game day and everyday. The philosophy is simple–to transform young people into dynamic spirit leaders and help them develop strong leadership skills for life. It is a great team builder that kicks off our Wildcat Season.
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the DV Cheer Squad for receiving the “Leadership Award”. We were one of the two teams to be recognized with the highest honors of the camp experience. It was a fantastic job by the athletes representing what a Wildcat Cheerleader is at DVHS. Way to go team!!
Another highlight was All American Cheerleader Tryouts. Each team is allowed to choose up to 6 athletes to tryout for a chance to be recognized as an 'All American Cheerleader'. Recipients of this award receive a medal, a Letterman jacket patch, and a chance to perform at the New Year's Day Parade in London. For the tryout everyone performs their best jump and a cheer. In addition, female athletes perform a dance and male athletes execute a partner stunt. DV had 3 total cheerleaders get recognized as being in the top 8% of camp members. Congratulations to Juliette Price, Hannah Leece, and Megan Hooks for being selected as All American Cheerleaders!!
