Principal's Letter - February 2007
The Dougherty Valley High School
“The Tradition Starts Now!”
Dear Wildcat Families:
Welcome to Dougherty Valley High School where we begin our first year of traditions in excellence. DVHS is funded by developers Shapell Industries and Windemere BLC (Balkefield, Lennar and Centrex). Construction started on the 56 acre complex in May of 2006 and is near completion for the opening of school in fall 2007. One of the first tasks facing our district was naming the new school. A community of volunteers selected our school name, Dougherty Valley High School, our mascot, the Wildcat and our school colors Navy, Columbia Blue and Silver.
We open our doors to grades 9 and 10 commencing school year 2007-08 with approximately 550 students. In 2008-09 we will add grade level 11 and in 2009-10 we will complete our student body with the addition of grade 12.
Dougherty Valley High School has the unique opportunity to create our own traditions that will continue for generations. With the support of our community and the dedication of our students, parents and staff I am confident all students will be challenged through rigorous standards curriculum and high expectations. Students are encouraged to take advantage of extra-curricular opportunities to enhance their academic programs. If students are to get the most from their educational opportunity and Dougherty High School is to be considered excellence in education our students must maintain high personal expectations for success. To increase our students’ opportunity for success and help make DVHS an excellent school, students should aim to strive for following the listed guidelines:
1. Accept responsibility for your education, decisions, words, and actions
2. Act in a way that best represents your school, parents, community and self to promote a safe, healthy environment in which to learn.
3. Be active in the school and community
4. Maintain balance between academics, co-curricular activities, personal life
5. Support your fellow students and their activities
6. Respect cultural diversity, individuality, and the choices and rights of others.
We look forward to the challenges of the 2007-08 school year and embrace the opportunity of opening a brand new school. I encourage you to contribute to our school community by giving your best effort in everything you do!
Sincerely,
Denise Hibbard
